La Fiorida Farm & Beauty: a true paradise for runners! Located just 50 minutes from Milan, it stands out as a quiet and relaxing spot, away from the stressful city life, thanks to its fascinating natural surroundings. It is conveniently placed along the Sentiero Valtellina, a long cycle path connecting Sondrio with Lake Como.
Every runner knows that training is fundamental to achieving success during the competitions: this is the right spot where you can combine different kinds of training schedules with some relaxing after-run time.
Long flat routes:
Despite being completely flat, the Sentiero Valtellina is absolutely not boring. On a path of more than 30km, many along the Adda river, you can go from Lake Como to Morbegno without crossing any car. A full immersion in nature, far away from pollution and noises. During summertime, a light breeze will accompany you along the way, while during the winter months the natural exposure of the path to the sun helps warming the muscles up. Along the path, it is easy to find shaded picnic areas with water stations and wood tools to stretch your muscles. Does your training include hilly tracks or a dirt road? No worries, you will find a lot of fields and dirt tracks around here. Moreover, firebreaks will allow you to carry out loop trainings up to 3 hours between 1000 and 1500 mt above sea level. The loops can be used during wintertime as well.
Repeats (1000 mt) or short distances:
For those of you who want to improve their speed performances, keep in mind that this track is measured every 100 mt. Straight sections and more tortuous ones alternate thus making it quite lively. The ground is quick and perfect with any weather condition.
Fartlek (speed play) or hill training:
If you wish to strengthen on slope-changing grounds, the fartlek on a hilly track is something you don’t want to miss on. Here you can find a fascinating 12-km long ups-and-downs path.
Uphill repeats and much more:
Starting from La Fiorida, you can run uphill, reaching almost 2000mt above sea level. Here too, the paved roads the dirt tracks are very quiet. A firebreak on the right side of the valley has gained a reputation among runners in the last years: it is perfect for long slow runs (more than 2 hours) at a height between 1100 and 1500 mt. The ground is an off-road track but always viable.
Nature and woods will surround you on the Cech side of the valley or on the other side (Val Gerola and Val Tartano), where national skyrunning competitions are frequently held.
Are you a Skyrace lover? Valmasino, the place where the well-known Trofeo Kima is held, can be reached in 20 minutes. In the same time, you can also reach Pasturo (Lecco), where the Trofeo Scaccabarozzi, a skymarathon, starts.
