Walter Bonatti Trail
A fascinating hiking route among the peaks of Valtellina

The Walter Bonatti Trail is a mountaineering itinerary in the province of Sondrio that requires excellent training, dedicated to the mountaineer of the same name from Monza but from Valtellina by adoption. The Walter Bonatti Trail route starts in Monastero (Dubino), near the La Fiorida agritourism, and runs for about 25 km, crossing some of the wildest valleys in Valtellina (such as the Valle dei Ratti) and touching peaks up to more than 2,700 meters above sea level (Bocchetta del Calvo), until it reaches Bagni di Masino via Sentiero Roma.
The high mountain route in the Western Rhaetian Alps is challenging and requires about 15-20 hours of walking; it can be done in two days with a stop at the Primalpia bivouac, or in three days with also the Omio hut. The Bonatti Trail is a truly fascinating experience for mountaineers, offering views of the Rhaetian Alps, the Orobie Mountains, Valchiavenna, and Lake Como from above.
